Friday afternoon, Intro design studies. The topic of the class was the growing existence of artifice in human life, inevitable destruction of nature and the unknown consequences of those actions. Most of the classmates were depressed towards the topic, exception to the few architecture majors. I, myself was included in the equation. I questioned whether or not I can contribute to sustainability, and or how I can make a change in the fashion industry, whilst maintaining financial sustenance. This is in fact the core of this class; guiding new designers to think about ways to sustain the little natural resources that remain. Then this cup made of 100% compostable matter came to mind. How a small café in the corner contributes and voices its opinion, and how it is heard by customers like me. It was an uplifting moment, where if I remain hopeful and determined, then I too can make that small change.
